Gold Coast Getaway

This Gold Coast condo is a second home belonging to clients whose primary life is kissed by the sun on the California coast. For this project, one of the client’s primary goals was to create a home that was a continuation of their life, not a departure from it.

The first move was light. We replaced the dark flooring, brightening the home with pale white oak. We carried that softness throughout, letting the city’s presence into the home. We built ample storage to help streamline, with discrete designs that give the rooms weight, utility, and minimalist calm. In the family room, a single wall holds a fireplace, concealed storage, and a bar, so the space can shift easily, from everyday living to evenings of entertaining with friends.

In hues of cream and sand, and with delicate variations in tone, the rooms offer a sense of tranquility high above the bustle of the city below. With subtly unusual curves and inviting textures in natural tones, the chic comfort of the seating evokes the beaches of California. Nothing in the home competes with the view of the city and the lake. Instead, the floor-to-ceiling windows draw the outside in, the lake and skyline always present, while the interior offers quite respite.

A Noguchi light hangs like an architectural cloud above the dining table, while feathery textiles and airy drapery soften the home’s clean, modern lines. Nothing heavy, nothing forced. Just calm carried from the California coast to the Gold, a world apart from the urban noise.
